There are a few moments of inspiration on Young Bleed's debut My Balls & My Word, but by and large, it's a conventional late-'90s gangsta record, with blunted beats, deep bass and endless tales of violence and sex, gangs and guns. The main problem is that the rappers and the production blindly follow convention without second-guessing it or adding their own spin to the material. The rhymes are fine, but nothing special, and there are the occasional dope beats, but simply aren't enough of them to make the album of interest to anyone outside of hardcore rap fans. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
