How do game updates work with GOG?
So I'm slowly becoming a convert to GOG. Previously I only used to buy 'complete' games from them, for hwich you don't expect any updates. Games like Witcher 2, Neverwinter Knights, Kotor, etc.
But with the sale, I'm contemplating buying some contemporary games for which there are very frequent updates. Kerbal Space comes to mind.

How do updates work. Is there an ingame update button. Do I have to frequently check GOG's site and see if there is a new version. If there is, do I have to redownload and re install the entire game?
How does this process work? (I'm not just asking for KSP, but for all contemporary games).
Edit: I know GOG Galaxy is an option, but form what I gather, it doesn't work all to well yet. And most relevant to me, it isn't available for Linux
